about

the handle

j43 predates the web. it started on a two-line BBS in 1993, survived the eternal september, and went quiet somewhere around the first dot-com winter. it came back because the questions came back.

the question was never the protocol. it was who you trusted to answer.

what this is

a log. append-only, no deletes. mostly:

  • old transports revived — UUCP, FidoNet-era mail, things that worked offline before offline was a feature
  • sacred geometry as an interface problem
  • unix as a way of thinking, plan9 as a way of dreaming
  • keys, fingerprints, and the discipline of verifying

what this is not

a brand. a newsletter. a funnel. there is nothing to subscribe to except the RSS feed, and nothing for sale.

colophon

built with hugo and the seer theme — courier mono, phosphor cyan on near-black, scanlines rendered honestly in CSS. no javascript, no trackers, no external fonts. the sigil is inline SVG: a hexagonal frame, an open eye, a pupil that watches back.

j43 asks a question, jae answers one.
